Choose distination in Ladakh to feel the joy of gaining height.
The kangyatsey (2) shoulder of Kangyatse lies to the southeast of Leh located in the valley of Marka famous as Markha valley trek. The peak is beautiful and easy to climb, here remains snow and ice throughout the year. Proper mountaineering gears should be with you for climbing this peak and as far as guide is concern local trekking guide is enough to support in summiting this peak. We can approach this peak from four different ways:-
01. Chelling 56 km away from Leh to the southeast direction of Indus river. It takes four days from Cheling to reach base camp. And it is considered to be the best route to get there. It is helpful to get familiar with the altitude as you going higher day by day, you will really enjoy the exceptional view of the valley and opportunity to know the life style of the people living there.
02. The second route is Shang Sumdo around 50kms away Leh in the southeast direction of Indus river, ending point of famous Markha valley trek. Takes around one and half hours to get to the starting point by taxi from Leh. On the very first day have to climb Kongmarula pass (6150m). So recommended not to choose this route, altitude sickness and other hardship may bring obstacles in trips when one directly goes on such an altitude area.
03. Lato located in Gya village takes around 2 hours to get there by taxi from Leh. From there takes 3 days to reach to the base camp by trekking. We have to cross Chakstang la pass (5150m) immediately after start walking and this is not right for any trekker.
04. Kharnak (Dat) located in the valley of kharnak around 160 kms away from Leh town bit far from Leh. Takes around 5 hours to get there by taxi via Taklangla, considered as second highest motor able road in the whole world after Khardungla (18380ft). Four days is required to reach to the base camp of Kangyatse via Zalungkarpo la (5197m).
