Ladakh known for high mountains and peaks. The region is always delighted every tourist, who loves adventure. Khadey one among and other peaks in the valley known for trekking expedition, lies in between twins lake named Tsomoriri and Tsokar, known for its salty crystal water to the south east of Leh, around 220 km away from Leh town. Home of many wildlife centuries survive in high altitude valley of changthang with harsh weather condition of the valley. You can get on to top from four different ways but difficulty level varied as per choice of route. The itinerary below is good for those who are doing expedition in such an altitude place for first time. This expedition can be done in winter also when temperature fall below 0 degree. Chumathang hot spring is best place to have lunch and relax.

Chaktsang Tso small lake little before Tsomoriri is the spot from where you will see the first view of peaks. Need to drive upto nomad camp, starting point of trekking expedition Khadey peak. After walking 500 mtrs from nomad camp, meet Gyama nallah, that take you to Yokronosa camp. Nomadic way of life is unique features of the valley, move from place to place in search of grass to graze their herds of yaks and goats. Their tents called Rebo in local language can be seen while going towards camp. View of the valley from the top is spectacular and everyone feel glad when they gained height of peak and enjoy the view of lakes and other known and unknown peaks lies in that ranges also heart taking. Do proper acclimatise before moving from Leh to such high altitude place.

Khadey peak - Trip Detail
  • Day 01 Leh to Sumdo
    • Start early drive to Sumdo from Leh via Mahe Bridge takes around 6 to 7 hours by taxi (easy drive). Tibetan refugee camp is just near the camp site. It is good to had lunch at Chumathang known for Medicinal Hot Spring among local. You need to cross the bridge from Mahe and keep driving till camping site arrive.

  • Day 02 Sumdo to Yokronesa
    • Route you have to cover today is easy just need to walk for 3 to 4 hours. You can start walking late. On reaching camp, have lunch and relax for sometimes. But in the evening it is good to walk somewhere around campsite, just to get acclimatise.

  • Day 03 Yokro Nesa to base camp
    • An early start is recommended today, so need to have early breakfast and start walking toward base camp. After walking half an hour from the camping site, reach nallah need to cross. After that the route is gentle ascending and we have to keep walking for one hour by the side of that nallah, reach rocky land. keep on walking for one more hour to reach camp. There is pasture land little before the camping site.

  • Day 04 Base camp to summit and back to Base camp
    • Need 5 to 6 hours for summit, its good to get on the top early morning to enjoy the view of sunrise from the top. After spending few times on the top back to base camp takes 3 hours down ward walking. Overnight in tent at the camping site.

  • Day 05 Base camp to Nomad camp
    • Have early breakfast start trek to Nomad camp first one hour slope trails and continue 4 hours walking on plain trails through the nallah till camp arrive. Overnight in tent at camping site, nomadic camp.

  • Day 06 Nomad camp to Leh via Mahe bridge
    • Have early breakfast and visit beautiful Tsomoriri lake and Korzok monastery named” Thupstan Sningbo Drupgout Standar Chosling” which was founded between 1851-1861 by lama Kunga Lodos Snyingbo sponsored by head of Rupsho Tsering Tashi Namgial. Back to Leh by taxi. Lunch can be had at Chumathang hot spring/Upshi.
