Rumtse is a small consists of few families, just at the base of Staklangla located on the way to Manali around 76kms from district head quarter. It takes around 2 hours to get there by taxi. The view of the village is awesome and temperature remains cool even in summer due to high altitude, which is the starting point of trek to Tsomoriri of 9 days. Takes you through high altitude pleatue of changthang known for high altitude and stunning landscape different from rest of the region. while doing this trek you can enjoy the view of wild life/birds. The lake like Tsokar (Known as salt water lake in the region) and Tsomoriri fully guarded by mountains known for its beauty in the region. You can also experienced the life style of Changpa nomad who rear yaks, sheep and goat etc for food and wool for making clothes for winter season. One can visit Korzok monastery named” Thupstan Sningbo Drupgout Standar Chosling” which was founded between 1851-1861 by lama Kunga Lodos Snyingbo sponsored by head of Rupsho Tsering Tashi Namgial. While driving back to Leh via Mahe bridge you can watch the medicinal hot spring of Chumathang very much famous among the local for treatment.

Rumtse to Tsomoriri Trek of 10 Days - Trip Detail
  • Day 01 Leh to Rumtse
    • Leh to Rumtse by taxi takes around 3 hours to reach. On reaching at the trekking point rest for few hours but in the evening little hiking around the camp is necessary to acclimatize so that body used to the altitude of this area, higher than altitude of Leh and its surrounding. Night have to spend in tent at the camping site.

  • Day 02 Rumtse to Kyamarla base
    • Today the route is bit uneven for about one and half hours, after that normal for rest of the walk. you have to walk through the gorge till the camp site arrives. It is good to do short walk as there is very much varied in altitude from Leh. Might fall sick if take long destination. Camp site is beautiful with running stream water. Takes around 3 hours to reach at the camp site. Overnight in tent at beautiful camping site.

  • Day 03 Kyamarla (5180 mtr) base to Tesalingg
    • Today trek start with climbing Kyamarla, takes around one and half hours to reach on the top. The route is gentle ascend till top and the view is good and going downward is easy too. And then again have to climb the second pass named Mandalchanla gentle ascend till top. It need 5 to 6 hours to get to the nest destination. Camping site is at Tesaling.

  • Day 04 Tsesaling to Pongkanabu
    • Today again you need to cross a pass named Shingbukla(5230mtr) the route is gentle ascend and after crossing the pass, you have to walk through gorge for about 3 hours and keep walking till camping site arrive. Complete route takes around 6 hours to reach to the Pongkanabu camp site. on the way to camping site you will see wild asses. The camp site is good overnight in tent.

  • Day 05 Pongkanabu to Nuruchan
    • The route today is plain and easy you just need to walk only for 3 hours. You will see Tsokar lake Known as salty water. It was the only source of salt for the region and nearby areas till Leh was connected to rest of nation. People of the area used to trade of salt in nearby villages. You could see some wild animals and sometime black neck crane at this spot. The camp site is at Nuruchan.

  • Day 06 Nuruchan to Rachung karu
    • For getting today’s destination takes around 5 to 6 hours easy walking. Have to climb Horlamkongka(4930mtr) which is gentle ascend takes around 3 hours to reach on the top. Nomad camp of the area is near the camping site. you can experienced the life style of the nomad. Overnight in tent at the camping site.

  • Day 07 Rachung karu to Gyamabarma
    • Need to climb two pass named kayurula (5300mtrs) and second one is Gyamala (5230mtr). You can see the Tsokar lake from the top of Kayurula. After crossing this la we have to walk on plain for around 2 hours and again have to climb Gyamala takes around 3 hours to cross this la. Complete route takes around 7 hours bit hard. Over night in tent at the camping site.

  • Day 08 Gyamabarma to Korzok
    • Today you have to follow the trails along the stream till reach on the top of the la Yalungnalung(5400mtrs) , from the top, you can enjoy the view of Tsomoriri lake, Chamser lungser and Mentok peak and all other peak above 6000mtrs. Downward walking takes around 2 hours. After that you have to walk on plain for about 1 and half hours till reach Korzok phu, a beautiful pasture land. It takes one more hour to reach at the camping site near the stream. You can visit the lake and enjoy the beauty of nature. Overnight in tent at the camp site.

  • Day 09 Tsomoriri to Leh by Vehicle
    • Drive to Leh, via Mahe Bridge takes around 6 to 7 hours by taxi (easy drive). Lunch can be had at Chumathang hot spring. You will reach Leh by afternoon.
