June to OctoberChoose distination in Ladakh to feel the joy of gaining height.
Mentok Kangri (6250m) lies in the valley of Changthang near Tsomoriri lake located in the village of Korzok, around 220 kms away from Leh town. you can be seen the first view of the peak and route to summit from Korzok village. You can achieve this height from three different directions, One is from the front of the peak, bit difficult, become more difficult during rainy days as there is threat of falling rocks from upward mountain. Takes time to dry but better to wait for complete dry of the land. The second route is via Korzok nallah. More easier than previous one, just need to follow the nallah till base camp arrive. It is good for those climbers who need proper acclimatization and want to achieve the height little by little. The third one is from back side of the peak, valley named Zalung, the route is bit far but easy to climb, known for trekking expedition. The route is good for those who want to trek at an altitude of more than 4000 mtrs. The view of the valley and lakes from the top of this peak is beautiful.
Leh to Sumdo by Vehicle
Drives to Sumdo Tibetan settlement camp of the valley, takes around 6 to 7 hours easy driving. You can stop for Lunch at Chumathang known for medicinal hot spring famous among the local for treatment of diseases like Acidity, Arthritis, headache etc. The camp site is near the village.
Sumdo to Tsomoriri Lake by vehicle and from there to Korzok Nallah by trek.
Drive to Tsomoriri takes around 2 hours easy drive. After reaching start trek Korzok nallah takes around 1 and half hours to reach at the camping site, just need to follow the nallah from left. In this itinerary we have kept short route for the first day, keeping in view to avoid altitude sickness and to acclimatize properly before moving toward upward camp. On reaching camp, relax for few hours and in the evening, do walking practice.
Korzok Nallah to Base camp
Today the route is easy but gentle ascend takes around 2 to 2 and half hours. you can start trekking late as the destination is quite easy and short. Keep your climbing gears ready for summit as you need to start early. And if time left do survey the trials of tomorrow’s route. sleep early, to get up early for summit.
Base camp to summit to base camp
Today it is good to start early to get top on time and enjoy the view of sunrise from the peak and to prevent hurdle like wind etc. Takes around 6 to 7 hours to reach on the top. The view of the valley from the top is awesome. It is important to take climbing gears and torch with you to dispel darkness of the night. After spending some time on the top start walking back toward base camp.
Base Camp To Tsomoriri
Today it is good to start early to get top on time and enjoy the view of sunrise from the peak and to prevent hurdle like wind etc. Takes around 6 to 7 hours to reach on the top. After spending some time on the top start walking back toward base camp.
Tsomoriri to Leh by vehicle
Drive back from Tsomoriri to Leh, via Mahe Bridge takes around 6 to 7 hours by taxi (easy drive). Lunch can be had at Chumathang hot spring or Upshi.
